X server necessary using ovitos?
« on: December 14, 2018, 04:34:45 AM »
Hello everyone,

I am currently using ./ovitos to do some Dislocation Analysis on a remote machine. I found that even without graphics, ./ovitos will still open the Xquartz on my local Mac. So, I cannot submit a job and close the terminal. Is there anyway to circumvent this so that I can turn off local machine and wait for the result? Please advice! Thanks in advance.

Best regards,
Chang Liu

Hi,

ovitos automatically connects to the X server on startup if there is one, because it might require it for OpenGL rendering (of images/movies). However, you can "hide" the X server from ovitos by clearing the DISPLAY environment variable using the following shell command before starting ovitos:

   export DISPLAY=
