connection error reading from remote HPC
« on: February 17, 2017, 02:19:42 PM »

Hi,

I am using OVITO to read data from remote HPC(REDHAT) on local desktop(WIN8), however, following error ocuurs,

Cannot access URL
sftp://#####
SSH connection error:Timeout waiting for reply from server.

Does this mean  I must set any other parameters correctly,  Currently I have no problem with SSH access alone. NOT Building from source.

Did you come across same problem. Pls suggest on how to solve? Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Hi,

The error message suggests that the SSH client of OVITO does not reach the SSH server at all. I assume you already double checked that the hostname is correct. (It might be a good idea though to also use the 'ping' command in the terminal to check if the server is responding).

What about the port? Does the SSH server listen on the default port 22?

Which Windows software do you normally use to connect to the HPC machine?

And do you have any firewall software installed on your local PC that may be blocking OVITO from connecting to the remote host?

I was facing the same problem. It turns out that I am not specifying the name of the file at the end of the path to file instead just path itself. Once you give in the name of any one file, it will automatically read-in the others files available in the directory.
