Custom Modifier Presets
« on: April 27, 2017, 01:54:39 AM »
Hi all,

Is there a file/location where the custom modifier presets are saved? I am looking to copy my presets from one computer to another (windows to linux).

Thanks,
Eric

Hi Eric,

Custom modifier presets get stored as part of the application settings. Unfortunately, the settings are stored in the registry under Windows and in a config file under Linux. Because of these different formats, there is no way to transfer the settings from a Windows computer to a Linux machine. The storage location of the application settings is shown in Ovito's application settings dialog, by the way.

It's not an elegant solution, but as a workaround, I suggest to apply the modifier preset(s) to some dummy data, save everything as an .ovito state file, transfer the state file to the other computer, load it in Ovito, and re-create a new preset from the loaded modifier(s).

I will consider adding an option to the program in the future which allows exporting the modifier presets to a file that can be transferred between computers.
